The Story Behind the Stitch

Each of the three dimensional roses on this barrette was hand-embroidered using a layered silk-thread technique, their petals graduating from cream and pale lavender at the outer edges to a rich, saturated violet-plum at the center. The effect is botanical and painterly at once — the kind of color transition that takes time and intention to achieve, and that no machine can replicate.

Between the roses, fine needle-stitched foliage in sage and yellow-green adds botanical structure, its delicate stitches catching light differently than the surrounding embroidery. Scattered freshwater pearls are placed at intervals across the surface, and hand-set bronze-toned rhinestones add a warm, antique glimmer that complements the violet palette beautifully. The entire oval is bordered with hand-strung iridescent AB crystal beads — their prismatic shimmer shifting from silver to lavender to gold depending on the light.
